Located directly at the border to France is the Grandvalira region. It stretches over the two Andorran districts Encamp and Canillo, and presents itself as the largest skiing region in the Pyrenees. Canillo is the capital city of the region with the same name. Here you'll find a great number of Andorra's traditional old mountain houses, the "borda", many of which include restaurants offering traditional cuisine. In Canillo you'll find several historic churches and chapels, many dating back to the 11th century, lending the region and resort a unique charm. For an apres ski fix, many of the locals swear by the "Camping Pla", which offers great parties and equally good cocktails. Also recommended is the Caldea Spa, Europe's largest thermal spa, which is located on a natural hot spring and is located just a few kilometres from Canillo.
