The charming resort Bad Gastein (1,002 m) lies in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park, in the heart of Salzburger Land. Its landmark, the Gasteiner waterfall, falls impressively over three levels approx. 300 m in the centre of the resort. Numerous grand hotels from the imperial era are sprinkled along the steep alleys on the mountain slope, as are many belle epoque structures, characterising the townscape. Also a plus is the glass connection tunnel, through which you can reach the futuristic cliff thermals facility from the valley station. This is situated in a former, 2.5 km long mining tunnel.
