The Großglockner high alpine road leads you through the marvellous landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Here, north-west of Carinthia, lie Heiligenblut and Döllach. This is where the first ascent of the Großglockner started out from, which at 3,798 m is the highest mountain in Austria. Even today the region is regarded as the cradle of alpinism. Due to its height (1,300 - 2,900 m) and its location on the main chain of the Alps, the Heiligenblut ski region guarantees snow security until far into the spring. The intermediate runs make the region an ideal holiday destination for sporty skiers and families alike. Mörtschach - skiing on Austria's highest mountain!
The lovely resort Mörtschach is situated at an altitude of 950 m, between the imposing Großglockner Massive, the Lienz Dolomites, the Schober Massif and the Kreuzeck Massif. You can either relax and gather your strength or go on an exploratory tour in the heart of the natural surroundings. With a total area of approx. 1,834 km², the Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest nature preserve in the Alps and includes impressive glaciers and rock faces. There are also many interesting day trip destinations near Mörtschach, e.g. the church in Heiligenblut, the Franz-Josefs-Höhe, the Asterner Moor or the charming small town of Lienz, with its numerous shopping opportunities.
