skiing France: Snow up your Life!

France - A skiing nation with plenty of superlatives! The Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps, Chamonix has the highest cable car in Europe, and Les Trois Vallées claims to be the largest ski area in the world. Ski France!

Savoie:
The large ski areas of La Plagne, Val Thorens, Tignes and Valmeinier are located in a semi-circle around the Vanoise Massif in the southern Savoie Alps. Although there are still some gaps between the ski areas, they will one day be joined to become the largest winter sports territory in the world.

Isère:
A wintersports region can hardly be more varying. This one reaches from the marginal mountain ranges of the French Pre-Alps to the Écrins Massif, the majestic high mountain scenery of the Dauphiné.

Maritime Alps:
The Maritime Alps mean sea and high mountains in one breath. It is the distinctive contrast between deep blue sky and snowy winter landscape that creates the special attractiveness of the most southern wintersports area in the French Alps.

Culture

France reached its position in Europe and in the whole world mainly through its individual culture, which is particularly reflected in the language. The French actually organise the protection of their culture and language in media politics by instructing quotas for music and movies. In the European Union, UNESCO, and the WTO, France is fighting for its definition of cultural diversity ("diversité culturelle"): Culture is not a good that can be traded without barriers.

The care and preservation of the material cultural heritage is a national matter. This insight is being supported in the public with governmental measures, which help form a nation-wide cultural awareness. In the cultural calendar, certain days have been marked to celebrate things like national heritage, music, or cinema, which are very popular with the French. Noble cultural events reflect the self-conception of France as a cultural nation with Paris as its cultural capital.

After spending a gorgeous day in one of France's ski regions, which have already hosted three winter Olympics (Chamonix 1924, Grenoble 1968, and Albertville 1992), you can let the day unwind by enjoying the traditional French cuisine and a glass of red wine.
