Park City - top ski area and Olympic pistes!
In 2002, Salt Lake City was the host for the Olympic Winter Games. One third of all the events took place in the three ski areas of Park City, which brought a fair amount of fame to the small, historic town. The region has now developed into one of the best and most well-known ski resorts in the USA. At the end of the 19th century, Park City was still dependent on the numerous silver mines, whereby in the 1960's skiing began to dominate the town's economy. The resort is located at 2,134 m altitude, and apart from the adventurous pistes, the Main Street is especially worth seeing with its many cultural delights including numerous art galleries and museums as well as historical tours through the resort. Those looking for fun alternatives to skiing should try a hot-air balloon ride, snow-shoe hike, or a cruise through the area by snow-mobile. Several spa and wellness options ensure total relaxation. The area is particularly attractive because of the short distances between accommodations, shops, restaurants, and pistes. A special service offered for skiers is the free ski bus, which interconnects the entire skiing region. There are also many lakes to be found in this lovely area.
