And off we go again: the first season openings

09/05/2013 - Selina Sauerland

Whilst some are still enjoying the summer sun and are spending their last days in the southern coastal areas, the first preparations are already taking place in the mountains for the new season. And on the glaciers this generally happens earlier than elsewhere. Therefore we are presenting you with the season’s fist opening events to look forward to. Note yourself the following dates in your calender:

4th – 6th October: Park Opening at the Hintertux Glacier

The first park opening in Europe traditionally takes place in the Zillertal. Everyone is welcome on this weekend in the “Bretterpark” at the Hintertux Glacier – from freestyle beginner to absolute pro. Newbies can get going on the new element of the beginner or medium line. The best brands offer their best equipment to test for free on this weekend. The park’s pro line is closed on Saturday so only the participants of the “Hotzone Session of the Dudes” can show off their talent. Amateures, such as Marco Feichtner, Marco Grilc, Seppe Smits or Steve Gruber will be competing against real pros. Further battles: the “adidas Jersey Jam” on a special obstacle at the Tuxer Fernerhaus and the Bomb Drop and Bag Jump. In the evenings the party continues in the valley with the opening party, where various apres ski parties and film premieres invite you to spend some fun nights.

11th – 13th October: KTO – Kaunertal Opening on the Kaunteral Glacier

Freestylers watch out: the popular annual opening event on Tyrol’s youngest glacier will again transform to the place to be on these dates. The newest equipment of the most popular brands can be tested and pros as well as amateurs will be showing off their talent in contests, e.g. when sliding on the Monster Rail. The KTO party tent in the valley will be the location where you will find live music, party and film premiers by film producers from the scene. A mini skate ramp rounds off the programme this year.

12th October: White “Wiesn” at the Stubai Glacier

“O’zapft is” is the motto on the 12th of October on the Stubai Glacier. With the traditional tapping of the barrel, Bavarian white sausage and Pretzel, as well as traditional Oktoberfest music (performed by the “Münchner Gaudiblosn”) there will real Oktoberfest atmosphere going on at 2,900 m altitude. The programme is rounded off by a presentation of traditional skiing.

12th and 13th October: Maxxx Mountain First Snow Glacier Opening in Sölden

The organisers have not yet leaked much info about the programme for this event which will be taking places on the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach Glacier. However, one thing we can already announce: there will free equipment testing, as well as live concerts and parties in the most popular party locations in Sölden.

18th – 20th October: Moreboards Stubai Premier at the Stubai Glacier

The snow park at the Stubai Glacier, the “Stubai Zoo” also opens the coming season with a bang. Jib battles, trick sessions, snowboard and rookie contests are on the programme, as well as a girls camp. In the brand saloon at the Eisgrat you have the possibility to test the newest equipment of the leading brands. In Neustift you can continue to have fun in the local bars once the pistes and parks have closed.

26th and 27th October: Tyrol’s highest located party on the Pitztal Glacier

Equipment testing, BBQ, ice climbing – that can already be planned in for the great season opening on the Pitztal Glacier. All the rest is still a secret.

9th and 10th November: White Start Games in Zell am See – Kaprun

At the Kitzsteinhorn, in the TauernSpa and in the centre of Kaprun there is loads going on at the beginning of November. For the third time the participants of the fun competitions are aiming for only one goal: to win the competition and receive a brand new Audi A1! Round and about there is an entertaining programme including equipment testing, a GoPro Cam Contest, winner celebration, and so much more.

Let’s make this a phenomenal start to the season!
