Short holiday in the snow: a ski weekend in the mountains

17/05/2019 - SnowTrex

Are your legs tingling? Are the mountains calling? Does fresh snow fall endlessly, but you do not have that many days off anymore? No problem! A skiing holiday does not always have to last a whole week. A short holiday in the mountains – a break for 2 to 5 days – is becoming more and more popular, but which destinations are suitable? SnowTrex offers numerous trips that can be booked for 2 to 4 nights and are absolutely worthwhile for an extended ski weekend.

The Hotel Grawand is the highest hotel in the Alps and is perfect for a skiing weekend.

Short holiday in the middle of the ski area

Hotels that provide the perfect backdrop for a few days away from the daily grind are particularly popular with short holidaymakers who only want to spend a (long) weekend in the snow – as they are very close to the slopes. Particularly if you don’t have too much time, it’s ideal to wake up in the middle of the skiing area in the morning. On the piste, you can make your first tracks before the majority of the other winter sports fans are even on the mountain. A special example of this is the Glacier Hotel Grawand. From the Italian town of Kurzras, winter sports fans take the gondola up to 3,212 m altitude. The hotel is located directly at the slopes of the Schnalstal glacier and is the highest hotel in the Alps. If this is too far for a short holiday, the Berghotel Trübsee in the Swiss town of Engelberg, for example, is the perfect place.

Short break in a glacier region

Even those who want to extend the winter season will find what they are looking for at SnowTrex. This is because Austria’s glacier ski areas offer fun on the slopes from October to May and, with their range of slopes, are the perfect destination for 3 to 4 days. The largest of them is the ski area on the Stubai Glacier with almost 110 kilometres of pistes. Accommodation for 2 or 3 nights can be found at SnowTrex in Neustift. Carinthia’s only glacier area on the “Mölli”, the Mölltaler Glacier, can be reached by winter sports fans from beautiful Mallnitz and for a short holiday on the Pitztaler Glacier, whose pistes take you up to 3,440 m, St. Leonhard in the middle of the beautiful Pitztal offers itself.

Short holiday as a party holiday

Another model of a short holiday: the party holiday. If you want to have a great time every evening in the hottest après-ski locations, 2 to 4 nights are often enough. In St. Anton, for example, you can easily try out everything during this time – from the Mooserwirt to the Krazy Kanguruh to the Heustadl, and for those who still have the opportunity to try out the pistes during all the celebrations, there is an incredible 341 km of pistes at your disposal. SnowTrex also offers accommodation for 2 to 4 nights in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, in Sölden or in glamorous Kitzbühel.

A short journey is important

For a short ski weekend, a short journey always speaks for itself. Innsbruck, for example, can be reached by train or plane – almost as good as the surrounding ski areas. The Olympia SkiWelt includes 9 ski areas, which they can be reached from the varied Alpine metropolis with the free ski bus. A short break while still exploring several ski resorts? No problem. Axamer Lizum, Glungezer, Kühtai, even the Stubai Glacier – everything is in the immediate vicinity. However, if you prefer a quiet mountain village to a lively city, you don’t have to drive far. Around Innsbruck there are idyllic places like Oberperfuss, Thaur or Kolsassberg, which are just as good starting points for exploring the ski areas. Even Zillertal is not far away from here. With a short journey and sufficient snow, the German ski areas from the Allgäu to the Bavarian Forest or in the low mountain ranges such as the Black Forest or the Hochsauerland score well. Often small but fine, they are perfect for a short break on skis. The Berchtesgaden region with places such as Ramsau, Bad Reichenhall and Berchtesgaden, for example, scores with 6 family-friendly ski resorts – and an extensive range of wellness facilities.
