skiing Germany: Snow up your Life!

The Alpine region nestled in southern Germany offers a wide range of ski areas, much to the delight of winter sports fans everywhere. Ski Germany!

Allgäu:
The Allgäu offers an ideal mix of sports, recreation and wellness. The superlative is the order of the day here: one claim to fame is the 2-country ski region of Fellhorn-Kanzelwand - Germany's largest ski area - which you can enter from both Germany and Austria. Guests can also enjoy Germany's longest valley run (7.5 km) at the Nebelhorn. In the evening you can delight in culinary specialities or indulge yourself in thermal springs.

Bavarian Alps:
Upper Bavaria's blue sky covers everything winter sports fans need. As the highest ski area in Germany, you'll find the Zugspitze offers a fantastic view. Once a year the professionals test their skills here in one of the large world cup competitions, the Kandahar downhill in Garmisch.

Berchtesgaden Land:
Whether beginner or expert, in Berchtesgaden you will find what's right for you. Pros cavort on the peak of Jenners, beginners prefer to keep to the Jenner meadows, families enjoy the Hochschwarzeck area near Ramsau and snowboarders can enjoy themselves at Rossfeld next to Oberau. Above all sits the majestic Watzmann at a height of 2,713 metres.

Sauerland:
The Sauerland, situated in south-eastern North Rhine-Westphalia, is surrounded by the lower Hesse mountains, the upper Sauerland mountain brim, the Wittgensteiner Land, the Siegerland as well as the Bergische Land. As a part of the Rhinish Slate Mountains you will predominantely find beeche and spruce forests here. Also known as the "land of a thousand trees", the highest mounatins in the Sauerland contribute significantly to Germany's winter sports regions with the Langernberg, the Hegekopf and the Kahle Asten. No matter if it is the toboggan or bob run on the Winterberg or the Mühlenkopf ski jump in Willingen, this unique atmosphere is something you shouldn't miss!

Westallgäu:
In the southwestern part of Bavaria, the Swiss-Bavarian hill country meets the picturesque foothills of the Alps. Here, cross-country skiing and winter hiking opportunities entice guests. The pistes are mostly mild and ideal for families; nevertheless, the nearby Nagelfluh range in the Bregenzer Forest has highlights for boarders and advanced skiers readily available.


Cross country

Why search far and wide, when good things can be found close by in Germany? Friends of the Nordic ski sports will find what they are looking for in Germany. Diverse circular trails with wonderful panoramic views of the mountains in the background will keep young and old entertained.

Enjoy fantastic tracks along the Köigsee in the Berchtesgadener Land or power yourself out on the Champion's Trail in Oberstdorf. The region Oberstdorf/Kleinwalsertal in the Allgäu offers routes of all levels over a total of 140 km length. One of the trails good for ambitious skiers is the 15 km long route from Oberstdorf to Spilmannsau. The more relaxed tracks however can be found in the districts of Rubi, Reichenbach, Schöllang and Rohrmoos.

The "DSV Nordic Aktiv Zentrum" in Oberstaufen leaves no wishes unfulfilled. One of the sports highlights is the super track, commencing in Aplsee at Immenstadt and leading to Waldsee near Scheidegg. In total the region offers 100 km of trails and on the Hädrich high track even in spring there is still the possibility to ski.

A further very attractive region for cross-country skiers is the area around Garmisch-Patenkirchen with more than 50 km of piste. In Garmisch and Grainau night owls will also find flood-lit pistes available.
