The holiday resort Dienten is located on an altitude of 1,071 m in the centre of Hochkönig ski region. In the local vernacular, the small municipality with its 761 inhabitants is also called "sDörfl am Hochkönig" ("the village at Hochkönig"), which underlines the pretty villages earthiness, with its historic village centre and the Gothic parish church St. Nikolaus.

A popular legend is that of the "flooded mountain pasture": the legend tells the tale of wasteful Alpine dairy farmers who will not harbour a poor beggar. One day they were punished by a mighty flood that instantly froze to the glacier ice that can now be seen up on Hochkönig. The so called "devil's holes" in the rocks high up on Hochkönig are explained by this legend. On special, legend-themed hiking paths, you can find out more about the secrets of these fairytale-like stories.
