Ski area Hochkönig
The local ski area of Maria Alm, the Hochkönig ski area (2,941 m), is particularly known for its reliability of snow. And if it doesn't snow as much as you'd like, snow machines, snow lances, piste equipment and reservoirs ensure undisturbed skiing fun. With 120 km of perfectly groomed pistes, 8 km of ski routes and 34 modern lifts, the child-friendly ski area offers snow fun for every winter sports fan. The most difficult piste is the 1 km long Hochmaist descent. But there are also challenging slopes in Maria Alm on the Aberg-Langeck (1,900 m), which can be easily bypassed by beginners. Freestyle fans can enjoy themselves in the snowpark with tables, slides and jumps on the Aberg. There are also some great freeride opportunities there. A ski bus runs between the individual areas, which is free of charge for lift pass holders.
The Hochkönig ski region also offers a wonderful ski circuit - one of the longest in the Alps - in the form of the Königstour. The route of 35 continuous kilometres of piste can be explored in just one day, making it ideal for day trips with the whole family. The Königstour has connected the ski areas of Mühlbach, Dienten and Maria Alm since 2012 and was recognised as the best ski circuit in 2014. Maria Alm is also directly connected to the main ski area on the Aberg, so there is a ski-in/ski-out connection to the Königstour.
Would you like to share all the impressions you've gathered during your skiing day with your friends and family? No problem! There are several Wi-Fi hotspots in the Hochkönig ski area. They offer you uncomplicated and free internet access at fun parks, lift stations and huts. The Kings Cab is also the first Austrian cable car to be equipped with a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Night skiing Hochkönig
Night skiing is offered several times a week in Maria Alm on the Simmerl lift. Another special highlight is the snow show in the "Magic Area", which takes place every Tuesday from 9 pm from the end of December to mid-March. Here you can marvel at ski formation rides, freestyle and stunt performances as well as torch-lit runs and fireworks. Admission is free.Après ski Hochkönig
A quiet end to the day, on the other hand, can be found in one of the rustic restaurants, where you can treat your palate to delicious specialities such as Wiener Tafelspitz, lamb roast with dumplings or cheese fondue.
Active types can also enjoy the winter landscape on the Hochkönig away from the pistes. A wide variety of ski tours and 85 km of cleared winter hiking trails invite you into the snow-covered mountain world. A snowshoe hiking tour or a fun toboggan ride are also worth an experience. There are two floodlit toboggan runs in Maria Alm alone. Water-lovers can let off steam in the indoor pool.
Snowpark Hochkönig: Kings Park Snowpark
The Hochkönig ski area boasts 3 different snowparks. Probably the most desirable of these is the "Kings Park". Stretching over a length of 1.8 km, the snowpark starts directly at the mountain station of the 8-seater gondola lift "Kings Cab". The setup is impressive: Boxes, butterboxes, jibs, kickers, rails, jumps, tubes and special obstacles leave nothing to be desired, whether beginner or freestyle pro. After a long, challenging ride, you can relax in the Kings Cab gondola with Wi-Fi and then go straight on to a new line.
Those who want to make the most of the Hochkönig's complete freestyle offer have two more parks waiting for them. The "Snowpark Natrun" at the Simmerllift is characterised by easier obstacles and is therefore more suitable for beginners or kids. The "Livingroom Snowpark" in Mühlbach, which is located at an altitude of 1,500 metres at the foot of the Mandlwände, is freshly shaped every day and offers challenges for everyone with its advanced and beginner lines. Two highlights await freestylers. The park is equipped with mirrors and live cams as well as a proper sound system. This means you can watch yourself ride to the finest music and then have your performance analysed online. In addition, boarders and freeskiers can get professional freestyle coaching twice a week for a small fee.
There is also a fun slope on the Aberg. The absolute highlight of the 850 metre long run with tunnels, wave curves, small ski jumps and mascots is the giant snow snail with a diameter of 30 metres.
The entire Ski amadé boasts 10 snowparks, making it an absolute freestyle Eldorado!
