Ski holidays Mariazell - A pilgrimage destination for winter sport enthusiasts!

Mariazell

Mariazell (868 m) is mainly known for being one of the most important pilgrimage destinations of Austria, due to the fact that the church Mariazell Basilica displays the statue of grace Magna Mater Astriae, which attracts countless pilgrims every year. But the trip is also worthwhile if you are on a pilgrimage for snowy mountains. Winter sport fans will find three ski mountains in the vicinity: the Mariazell Bürgeralpe, the Gemeindealpe in Mitterbach and the ski area Annaberg. It does not matter if you prefer tobogganing, cross-country skiing, hiking or ice skating - everyone will find the right spot in Mariazell.

But fun in the white snow is not all Mariazell has to offer. Travellers can enjoy numerous culinary specialities, such as the digestive liquor "Mariazeller Magenlikör" made out of 33 herbs, which is produced in the traditional department store Arzberger's own factory. Or perhaps you would rather try the home-brewed beer from the Girrer brewery or the "Mariazeller Jagasaft" - also a liquor. And last but not least: gingerbread. The town with its 4,000 inhabitants offers up to 50 different kinds of gingerbread and the baking craft has been part of the town's tradition for many years.

Bruck-Mürzzuschlag

The region Bruck-Mürzzuschlag is located in the mountainous and well-forested Upper Styria. The district spans over the Hochschwab Mountains, the Graz Highlands and the Mürztal Mountains. The district capital Bruck an der Mur is situated about 55 km north of Graz and one of the oldest Austrian cities with a historical town centre, as well as many imposing structures. It is the place where two of the biggest Austrian rivers, Mürz and Mur, flow into each other. Not far from the impressive Hochschwab (2,277 m) lies the town of Bruck, which is the perfect starting point for a trip to the many excursion destinations in the region.
