Ski area Niederalpl / Mürzsteg

The Niederalpl Alpine Centre is about 9 km away from the village centre of Mürzsteg. This mountain of joy offers 12 km of downhill skiing for beginners and advanced skiers alike. The pistes and refreshment facilities here have been individually designed with great attention to detail. For example, the runs have beautiful names of their own: The "Tom-Holzer-Downhill", the "Sohlalm" or the "Kinderland-Wiese" are flat, blue pistes, the "Rote Eins", the "Murmeltier-Steig" or the "Wetterl-Piste" are correspondingly red pistes. Freeriders don't have to miss out on one or two off-piste runs, either.

The ski huts place emphasis on special ambience. The "Little Nashville" is a Styrian "American Style" restaurant, while "Holzbox" and "Hansi-Hütte" offer snacks in a cosy wooden hut atmosphere. From the sun terraces, you can enjoy the view of Hohe Veitsch, Hochschwab and Schneealm.

Après ski Mürzsteg

Mürzsteg's leisure activities offer everything that is part of a winter holiday - plus a speciality: icefall climbing. The "Mürzstegerfall" freezes completely in winter and is relatively easy to climb with crampons. If scrambling up the frozen waterfall is too daring for you, you can try the artificial ice climbing tower in Altenberg an der Rax under expert guidance. In Mürzsteg, you can also enjoy curling and skating on the ice.

In keeping with the spirit of gentle winter tourism, several routes have been opened up for ski tourers. Those who prefer to be out and about without skis under their feet can explore the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park along numerous hiking trails. In the evening, social life gets going in the good parlours of the inns. Here, you can expect the best home cooking, from a hearty farmer's feast to "Freinerschnitzerl" and Styrian brown trout.
