Ski area Grünberg

On the Grünberg (1,497 m), the local mountain for Obsteig, there is a small family ski area, which extends up to 1,102 m altitude. The soft slope with its 1.3 km long descent is ideal for the first swings on skis for both children and beginners, whilst the parents can easily overlook the area. A large, flat winter play meadow is perfect for the little ones on skis for the first time. Here, there are 5 magic carpets available which make an easy access for the area with its many colourful obstacles. The Grünberg lift alongside the piste, runs up a bit higher and opens access to a blue a run with 700 m total length. This piste is more suited for adult beginners and more experienced skiers and snowboarders.

Where the tow lift ends, there is a panorama platform, which offers a great view of the surrounding scenery. Just below the activity slope lies the Grünberg Alm, which offers a great retreat for breaks. Child-care service is available here and the adjoining playground is perfect for the little ones. Just above the largest magic carpet, there is also a toboggan run, which leads right back down to the parking lot.

Directly next to the ski school gathering area is the access point to the ski touring terrain. In total there are 3 routes that commence at the parking lot and lead into the snowy mountains. Via the non-prepared ski touring pistes, the trail also leads up to the Sauwetter hut. On this 1.5-hour tour the pistes runs by the hut and up to the peak of the Grünberg at approx. 1,500 m altitude. A 2-hour tour to the Lacke is also suites for beginners and promises a great view of the Inn Valley at the top. The third route targets the view point on the Simmering at 2,096 m altitude. This more challenging tour takes around 3 hours. Beginners can book guided tours in Obsteig and rent the required equipment at the local ski school.

Après ski Obsteig

In the holiday region of Mieming & Tirol Mitte, an active experience off the piste is certainly possible. Make sure to pick up your free "Gäste.Card" guest card from the local tourism office or your accommodation, of which will provide you with an assortment of activities to participate in. For example, you can go on guided snowshoe tours or cross-country skiing, lantern hikes or classic tobogganing. Furthermore, you can both ride the ski bus and rent a toboggan for free. A popular day trip destination that's also exciting for children is the Höhenburg Fortress. With its high keeps and historic walls, this restored colossal structure from the 13th century brings visitors back to medieval times.

A winter holiday has to include ice skating, which is possible in several locations in the area. The nearest rink is located at Lake Mieming, where an approx. 900 m² surface with flood lights and music await ice skaters of all kinds. Further artificial rinks can be found in the Telfs ice hall, the Silz artificial arena and the Wildermieming rink.

If it's nature you prefer to discover, you should certainly take a hike along one of the five themed hiking trails in the "Aplinpark." From Paths lined with descriptive signs explaining the local flora and fauna run from Obsteig over Mieming until Wildermieming. If you'd much rather prefer to enjoy the Tyrolean alpine landscape on a cosier note, we recommend a panoramic ride in a horse-drawn carriage over the sunny plateau.

Is the weather less than ideal? No problem! Follow the "Mieminger Straße" (a mountain road) for about 12 km heading towards Telfs, where you'll find a large sports centre for indoor activities. You can go wild with ice skating, skittles, squash and tennis, climbing in the triple gymnasium and end with taking a break in the connecting restaurant. In addition, the complex also includes a completely redesigned indoor swimming pool with sauna area and solarium, so that there will be no shortage of relaxation on your holiday.
