Cross-country Windischgarsten
Information on cross-country skiing
120 km km of cross-country tracks:
The region Pyhrn-Priel sums up a total of approx. 120 km of trails at various altitudes, between 600 and 1,400 m. High-altitude trails located directly in the ski area Hinterstoder and Wurzeralm, as well as a lovely, extended trails though the Windischgarsten Valley with a good number of pause stations, make Nordic skiing in this nature park in the Limestone Alps a really unique experience.
In and around the resort Windischgarsten there are various trails to choose from. The Edlbach trail is ideal for enduring skiers, who can manage the 15 km to Edlbach, where you can also find access to the trails to Spital am Pyhrn. Sunny training rounds on the easy Gunst trail (2.2 km) are possible directly at the sports centre, and the slight longer Sonnenwendl trail (7.5 km) is a further easy option. A child-friendly track, the Zölskogel trail (4.1 km), is located at the southern edge of the resort.
A visit to the Pyhrn-Priel-Rosenau and s.moritz biathlon and cross-country area are worth the effort. Located at the Hengstpass, this is one of the most snow-reliable cross-country centres in Upper Austria. Snow canons further ensure that classic and skating style trails are well maintained, and a modern shooting range with 26 stands and changing cabins complete the offer.
