Snowboard holiday - where to go?

The best ski areas for snowboarders are found in France, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Long, wide pistes and minimal tow lifts – snowboarders will feel right at home here! The glacier ski area at the Kitzsteinhörn in Kaprun, Austria, for example, not only offers snow security, but also quite a few pistes for snowboard beginners and pros. The deep snow runs are especially popular with freeriders just as the fun parks are with the freestylers. Snowboard pros will also find plenty of off-piste areas in the French ski area of Chamonix, for example, providing for adventurous freeride experiences. Other ski areas worth noting are in Val Thorens, Les 2 Alpes, Kauner Valley Glacier, Zillertal, Zermatt, Engelberg, Davos and Livigno. Those looking for a massive selection of pistes should consider checking out the ski region covered by the Super Ski Card, in which you gain access to over 2,750 km of piste in the regions of Zell am See/Kaprun and Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn.

As many holidays take place in winter, there are numerous holiday-goers who enjoy going on a skiing or snowboarding holiday during Christmas, New Year's Eve and Easter. Those travelling alone or as a couple could consider staying at one of the many spa hotels available to choose from, which often provide a comprehensive selection of relaxation opportunities after snowboarding. Just like the spa hotels, SnowTrex also offers a comprehensive selection of ski accommodations for families, whether it be a hotel with half board or a self-catering apartment. Those who like to party after their day on the pistes will also find numerous ski resorts with SnowTrex, of which offer a plethora après ski opportunities. Resorts like Ischgl, Mayrhofen and Sölden are especially popular.

Snowboard holiday – what to look out for?

While on a snowboard holiday, there is a certain basic set of equipment that you will definitely need. As a snowboarding beginner, you can and should get most of your equipment from a ski and snowboard rental shop or borrow some from your friends. Snowboard equipment includes ski/thermal underwear, suitable snow pants and jacket, ski goggles, ski gloves and a helmet. A snowboard and snowboard boots are also required, of course.

While the equipment is important, the choice of ski are for your holiday is just as important. Rather small pistes, small connecting paths, ski routes and tow lifts are generally not favoured by snowboarders. For beginners, ski areas with blue pistes are recommended while more advanced riders should look into one of the many ski areas that have fun parks, deep snow pistes or freerider pistes as these will guarantee plenty of diverse runs!
