Ski holidays Kranjska Gora - a resort for families!

Kranjska Gora

The village of Kranjska Gora, with its 1,403 inhabitants, is located very close to Triglav National Park, surrounded by mountains and glacial lakes. The alpine resort in north-western Slovenia is known as a recreation and winter sports destination. Although Slovenia is becoming increasingly attractive for winter sports enthusiasts, the traditional charm of the area has not been lost. This is ensured, among other things, by the Planica Nordic Centre, where ski jumping and flying as well as cross-country skiing training and competitions take place in accordance with Slovenian tradition. There are eight ski jumps at the Planica Nordic Centre in Kranjska Gora.

Cross-country skiers get their money's worth in both winter and summer. In winter, the outdoor cross-country trails are used, and in summer, the covered cross-country skiing polygon can be used. Those who want to stay active in the evening can enjoy a night slalom course under floodlights.

Upper Sava Valley

The Slovenian Upper Sava Valley is located in the far north-west of the country, close to the border triangle with Italy and Austria. To the north, you can enjoy fantastic views of the Karawanken mountains, while to the south you can see the Julian Alps.

Winters are cold in the Upper Sava Valley, making it ideal for winter sports in the Slovenian Alps. Nevertheless, the slopes on the Karawanken side enjoy excellent sunshine, allowing for skiing in great snow and sunshine at the same time.

Winter holidaymakers in the Upper Sava Valley appreciate the Gorenjska (Upper Carniola) ski region, which comprises a total of 18 municipalities and 17 large to small ski areas. With 30 kilometres of pistes, Krvavec is the largest ski resort, followed by Kobla (23 kilometres of pistes), Vogel (22 kilometres of pistes) and Kranjska Gora (20 kilometres of pistes). The other 13 ski resorts are also manageable in size, making them ideal for families and beginners.

Even though the Upper Sava Valley is very idyllic and peaceful, there are still larger, vibrant cities to visit. The city of Kranj, for example, with its approximately 200,000 inhabitants, is always worth a visit. And don't forget Slovenia's beautiful capital, Ljubljana!
