Spain's most modern ski area is in Formigal in the Pyrenees, the recent strong expansion of which is not quiet completed. The largest in the Pyrenees with 113.7 kilometres of piste, it offers skiers a new snow park, a boarder cross area and a variety of ski lodges and restaurants in addition to its comprehensive piste network.
Baqueira-Beret, with 103.9 kilometres of piste, has also been noticeably expanded in the past few years. The ski area stretches over altitudes from 1,500 m - 2,510 m and attracts skiers with its altitude difference of 1,000 m; it is one of the most popular areas in the country. Due to its Atlantic position, the ski area is very snow sure. It also attracts many deep snow fans, who can enjoy fantastic off-piste runs due to the size of Baqueira.
In the Sierra Nevada, skiers can curve down Europe's southern-most ski area. With 86.9 kilometres of piste, this ski area was host to the 1996 ski world championships. On clear days, skiers can enjoy a panoramic view from the highest point at 3,282 m to the Mediterranean coast and even Morocco!

After an exciting day on the piste, both in the Pyrenees as well as the Sierra Nevada, you will find lots of fun and sporty entertainment when you are looking for apres ski. While the Pyrenees are a little more relaxed and more family-orientated regarding après-ski, the Sierra Nevada nightlife can be very exciting. The common Spanish temperament can be found in countless pubs, bars and discos, where you can party way into the early hours of the morning. Of course there are also more tranquil après-ski possibilities available. Granada is only 38 km from the winter sports centre of the Sierra Nevada and invites you to stroll through a mixture of culture and shopping attractions. In all Spanish ski resorts you will also find further sporting offers, such as snowscooter riding, ice skating and snowshow hiking. If you consider food and beverage in Spain, one will generally think of Tapas, Sherry, ham, olive oil and Paella. The Spanish cuisine is very diverse and differs from region to region. Therefore you will find many restaurants providing all these varieties in the ski resorts.
