Ski holidays La Tzoumaz-Mayens de Riddes – Soak up the sunshine high above the Rhône Valley!

La Tzoumaz - Mayens de Riddes

La Tzoumaz, formerly known as Mayens-de-Riddes, takes its name from the Valais German word ‘tzoumer’, which means ‘to rest’. And this character perfectly describes the charming holiday village with its 500 inhabitants. It lies on the outskirts of the upmarket ski resort of Verbier in the canton of Valais, at an altitude of 1,510 metres. The village’s character is defined by traditional, detached chalets, which line a sunny plateau high above the Rhône Valley.

On a clear winter’s day, the view from here offers a wonderful panorama of the peaks of the Grand Combin, Mont Blanc and the Bernese Alps. Ideal for winter sports enthusiasts: La Tzoumaz is directly linked to the vast 4 Vallées ski area, meaning hundreds of kilometres of downhill pistes and cross-country trails are within easy reach. Alongside the sports on offer, the village also features a wide range of wellness facilities and shopping opportunities.

When it comes to activities, visitors can also look forward to tobogganing, winter hiking or paragliding in winter. Overall, La Tzoumaz is particularly popular with families who appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and the village’s natural setting on the edge of woodlands such as the Forêt des Etablons.

4 Vallées

The famous 4 Vallées are undoubtedly one of the highlights in the life of a winter sports enthusiast. They offer 412 km of slopes and ski routes, over 300 km of which are medium to steep. The "Four Valleys" are also a paradise for deep snow fans. At the centre lies the 3,330-metre-high Mont Fort, also known as the "summit of pleasure". From here, the longest descent into the valley, at 8 km, covers a difference in altitude of over 1,600 m!

In seven villages, there is something for everyone, even away from the slopes. Shopping opportunities, restaurants and bars leave nothing to be desired. Despite its popularity, the Alpine flair of the 4 Vallées has been largely preserved.
