Ski area Kitzsteinhorn/Maiskogel - Kaprun

Ski area Kitzsteinhorn/Maiskogel - Kaprun

With the lift pass "Ski Alpin Card" you can ski in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Fieberbrunn as well as in the ski resorts of Zell am See/Kaprun on an amazing 408 km of pistes. All under the motto "1 ticket, 3 regions, endless mountains".

In Kaprun you have access to 138 kilometres of pistes and over 47 modern lifts in the two ski areas Maiskogel and Schmittenhöhe as well as in the glacier ski area on the Kitzsteinhorn, which extends up to 3,203 m above sea level.

With the ski pass "Kitzsteinhorn-Kaprun" (low season) you can use the snow guaranteed ski area of the same name. With its 41 km, it offers mostly medium-difficulty pistes for beginners and pleasure skiers. Wide carving pistes and long, sporty descents, such as the 5 km long piste from the mountain station of the Magnetköpfl lift, make the heart of a skier beat faster. From Kaprun you can reach the glacier with the Gletscherjet and the Panoramabahn or from December 2019 with the K-onnection directly from the centre.

From Zell am See you can quickly reach the ski area at the Schmittenhöhe (2,000 m) with the CityXpress, the TrassXpress or the Schmittenhöhebahn lifts. This is particularly suitable for experts. The approx. 4 km long Trass descent is considered to be the most difficult in the entire ski area. A total of five freeride routes and a comprehensive information system with an infobase and info points are available. Freeriders can, for example, let off steam on the open ski area under the Sonnkogelbahn lift.

The Maiskogel ski area, on the other hand, has a large number of wide and blue pistes, making it particularly suitable for families. At the Maiskogelköpfel lift you will also find the longest run in the ski region, about 7 km long.

For freestylers, each of the three ski areas has its own snow park with tables, slides and jumps. Freeriders will also find plenty of opportunities. A total of 5 freeride routes and a comprehensive information system with infobases and info points are available. At the Schmittenhöhe, for example, you can let off steam on the open ski area under the Sonnkogelbahn lift.

As a special service, the ski areas around Zell am See and Kaprun offer free Wi-Fi at various hotspots throughout the ski area. You can easily access the Wi-Fi network and surf the Internet, download the latest snow reports or post pictures.

From December 2019 the Schmittenhöhe will be connected to the ski circus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. The brand new zellamseeXpress now departs from Viehhofen in Glemmtal. Six cabins have a jukebox to which you can connect your music. There is also a ski bus between Viehhofen and Vorderglemm. By 2023, the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn and the ski area Zell am See-Kaprun are to merge completely. This will make the merger the largest contiguous ski area in Austria.

Night skiing Kaprun

Just like in other night skiing areas in Austria, the ski area Zell am See-Kaprun also offers the possiblitiy to go skiing by night time. In Zell am See, the neighbouring resort of Kaprun, night skiing is possible on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Night skiing takes place on the approx. 1.5 km, illuminated "Nightslope" at Ebenbergbahn lift. On days the piste is opened for night skiing, Ebenbergbahn lift closes at 15:00. From 18:30 - 21:00, the lift is opened again for night skiing. A special highlight is the view of the illuminated houses in Zell am See at night time. Ski passes valid for several days can also be used for night skiing. With single day lift passes, the night ski tickets can be acquired in resort.

Après ski Kaprun

Après ski is written big in Zell am See and Kaprun. Numerous cosy huts and snack stations are a major skier's magnet during the day. Especially recommendable is the aprés ski bar "Schnaps-Hans" on the Schmittenhöhe or the quaint and cosy "Pinzgauer Hütte".

The evenings can be spent partying in numerous aprés ski bars, pubs and discos in Zell or Kaprun. In bars and clubs called "Karambar", "Crazy Daisy" or "Diele" night turns into day.

Various further activities like tobagganing (day & night), ice skating, cross-country skiing or visiting the pool complex with sauna add to the large offer of leisure time activities. Those who like to aim high, can try a parachute jump, glide with a kite over the region or enjoy the lovely view from a glider. A stroll through the pedestrian precinct with its shops and cafes is also worth while.

Snowpark: Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn Kaprun

In the three ski areas surrounding Kaprun you have access to a major freestyle area. First place to go is the Kitzsteinhorn, where the local Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn offers adrenaline junkies and freestyle lovers 4 diverse areas to try out.

In the "Easy Park" kids and newbies can start their freestyle career with practise moves. There is an easy jib line, a rain line and 2 kickers. In the "Central Park" pros and experts can show off their skills. 6 metres long straight tube, various rails and kickers (6 - 12 m), as well as an 18 metre pro jump leave no wishes unfulfilled. Right at the top, at 2,900 metres altitude, there is the "Glacier Park", which is however only open during spring and autumn. Easy line, jib line and kicker line are then ideal for beginners and pros to practise their moves. Besides the snow parks there is also a fun line with wave ride and curves, as well as a real highlight: the 160 metre long and 6.60 metre high super-pipe - the largest in Austria.

More action is to be found in the fun park "Schmitten" on the Schmittenhöhe. This park offers obstacles such as rails, boxes, and kickers and is mainly geared to beginners and pros. The "Schmitten XXL" promises loads of entertainment: a 1,300 metre long fun slope with wave ride, jumps, tunnels, etc.

A further park is ideal for families with kids: the "Maisi Phantasiepark" on the family mountain Maiskogel offers kids a wave run and some small ramps and therefore provide the best conditions for trying out first moves in the freestyle sport.

Further to the snow park there is also a 1,200 m long fun slope. Here, as it's name also says, it's all about having fun! The fun slope has among others, sound speed booster, rainbow bridge, giant snail and mascots.
