Ski holidays Rio di Pusteria – historic toll town between Val d'Isarco and Alta Pusteria!

Rio di Pusteria

The resort of Rio di Pusteria (German: "Mühlbach im Pustertal") is located only a few kilometres north of Brixen at the entrace of Alta Pusteria. The muncipal area is located on an altitude from 695 - 3,132 m, the picturesque resort centre is situated on 772 m. Above the centre, the districts Maranza, Valles and Spinges are situated along pretty streets in the low mountain ranges. A mountain railway takes you from Rio di Pusteria up to Maranza.

The market down was founded in the 13th century, proof of which are old walls and former residences. The most impressive sight is the "Mühlbacher Klause", an old fortification and customs station that is still used as river dam today. Thanks to Rio di Pusteria's favourable location nearby the Bressanone motorway and a car tunnel there is no transit traffic in the resort, so that everybody looking for relaxation and quiet will find a restful idyll.

The history charged resort is surrounded by large alpine pastures, softly declining mountain slopes and thick forests, while far away the Zillertal mountains' glaciers are sparkling in the sunlight. Thanks to the many hours of sunlight and rich snowfalls all sorts of winter sports offers are available: tobogganing, ice skating, winter hiking, ski touring, snow show hiking and of course skiing and snowboarding in the connected ski area Gitschberg-Jochtal.

Val d'Isarco

Val d'Isarco lies in the heart of South Tyrol and stretches from the Brenner to the Etsch estuary at Bozen. Dominated by the river Eisack, the valley boasts an impressive diversity of landscape at every time of the year. In the winter 95 km of pistes with varied difficulties invite skiers to the slopes. Whether beginner or expert - there is something for everyone. Due to its special location, the region is known to be very sunny and also snow-sure. Also away from the pistes there are many possibilities to spend an exciting day.
