Ski area Rosskopf

The Rosskopf is Sterzing's sun-drenched local mountain, the valley station is only approx. 5 minutes' walk from the town centre. A 6-seater gondola lift takes you comfortably up to the ski area, which stretches from 948 metres to 2,120 metres above sea level and offers magnificent panoramic views as far as the Dolomites. Two lifts and a chair lift take you and your little ones to the pistes below the Rosskopf (2,189 m), where a total of around 20 km of piste fun awaits you.

With its predominantly easy and moderately difficult pistes, the ski area is particularly popular with leisure skiers. The descents, which mostly run below the tree line, are usually pleasantly wide. Families appreciate the children's ski school, which has been awarded gold. Those who want to venture into the deep powder snow will find 5 km of ski routes on the Rosskopf. The ski area is also home to Italy's longest snow-covered toboggan run at 9.6 km. It starts at the guesthouse below the 3-seater chair lift and leads to the valley station of the gondola lift.

With the "South Tyrolean Wipptal" lift pass, the sunny slopes of Rosskopf, Ratschings-Jaufen and Ladurns with a total of 66 kilometres of piste are at your disposal.

Rules of conduct on ski pistes in Italy

To ensure safety on the ski slopes in Italy, stricter safety regulations have been in force since 2022. In order to use the ski areas, everyone must have liability insurance that covers damage to third parties. It will also be possible to take out this insurance on site for individual days. Drunken skiing is prohibited and punishable by heavy fines, with a maximum of 0.5 mg of alcohol per litre of blood. To reduce the risk of injury, helmets are also compulsory for all minors when skiing, snowboarding or tobogganing.

Après ski Rosskopf

In Sterzing, you can end your day's skiing in one of the cosy huts in the ski area or in one of the many traditional inns in the centre. There is even an award-winning restaurant in Sterzing with culinary highlights. The historic pedestrian zone with its snow-covered alleyways invites you to go on an extensive shopping spree, especially in winter.

But away from the pistes, the picturesque little town has more to offer than just culinary delights and shopping. For example, the longest snow-covered and floodlit toboggan run in Italy: the toboggan run on the Rosskopf has already been named test winner by the ADAC. On the other hand, guests can venture onto the ice in the ice rink. Less speedy but all the more romantic are the winter hiking trails around the town. And those who want to give their muscles a break can pamper themselves in the modern "Balneum" bathing world - in a sauna and wellness landscape covering 1,120 square metres.

Snowpark Horsehead: Snow park

Unfortunately, there is no snow park in the Rosskopf ski area. But just a few kilometres away, in the Ratschings-Jaufen ski area, the Ratschings fun park invites you to enjoy shredding fun. The area is located right next to the Enzian 4-seater chair lift and is considered a sporting highlight in the ski area. The TÜV-certified obstacles were designed by the renowned QParks team and offer a set-up for every skill level. A total of 17 different elements await beginners and pros.
