Big Sky Ski area
Big Sky is renowned for its dry powder snow, with a good 10 m falling each year. Together with Moonlight Basin, this creates a vast and highly varied ski area. The Lone Mountain ski pass grants access to both areas. There are several direct lift connections, allowing skiers to enjoy 220 runs with a total length of over 170 km. Big Sky has an extraordinary amount to offer the experienced skier – after all, 60 per cent of all runs are designed for this group! From the summit of Lone Mountain, a multitude of steep couloirs lead down into the valley; these may only be skied after receiving instruction and registering with the ski patrol. Safety equipment and a partner are compulsory. The highlight is the Big Couloir! Alongside extremely steep runs, mogul runs and fantastic off-piste terrain, there are also plenty of cruising runs – motorway-wide slopes with a moderate gradient. Incidentally, the longest run, from Liberty Bowl to Mountain Mall, is almost 10 km long. For snowboarders, there are several terrain parks, some for advanced riders and some for beginners. The large Swifty Park, in particular, is equipped with everything to make a snowboarder’s heart beat faster. Big Sky has already won several awards, as there are virtually no queues at the lifts.

Big Sky offers over 25 different restaurants and cafés, ranging from fine-dining establishments to pizzerias. There’s something to suit every taste. A special treat for nature lovers and romantics is a candlelit dinner in an authentic yurt tent in the middle of the snow. You’ll be taken there by snowcat. A sleigh ride and a campfire are also part of the experience. The resort is home to over 40 shops, ranging from souvenir shops and bookshops to art galleries. Enjoy a leisurely stroll! As well as skiing, there are plenty of other winter sports on offer: snowmobiling, dog sledding, high ropes courses, snowshoeing, cat skiing, sleigh rides, horse riding, snow tubing, horse-drawn sleigh rides and ziplining. A tour of Yellowstone National Park in a heated snow coach is also highly recommended. For those looking for more action, Chet’s Bar & Grill hosts the Crazy Austrians Variety Show with live poker. Whiskey Jack’s features live music every weekend. In contrast, you can relax in peaceful tranquillity at the Salace Spa with a range of wellness and beauty treatments.
