Ski areas in the Austrian Alps

World famous ski resorts such as St. Anton and Kitzbühel sound like music to every passionate skier's ears - and Tyrol's ski areas tend to hold what they promise. In the Kitzbühel ski area, for instance, there is the famous "Streif" - one of the world's steepest racing slopes - which offers a real challenge for all ambitious skiers. The Carinthian region, however, offers ski areas such as Sonnenalpe Nassfeld, Bad Kleinkirchheim, Mölltal glacier and Heiligenblut. Moreover, there are numerous ski areas in Salzburger Land, Eastern Tyrol, Styria and Upper Austria. The choices are endless!

Ski areas in the German Alps

In southern Germany, winter sports fans will find a good selection of ski areas which offer many possibilities for the high Alpine disciplines. The Bavarian Alps have the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain and highest ski area, which offers the only glacier ski area in the country. The Allgäu additionally offers an ideal mixture of sports, relaxation and spa. At the Nebelhorn there is the 7.5 km long valley descent, for instance, which awaits skiers with good stamina.

Ski areas in the French Alps

The Savoy in France presents itself as a first-class ski region with resorts such as La Plagne, Val Thorens, Tignes and Valmeinier. The Isère region is a very diverse winter sports destination. It stretches from the furthest brim of the Lower French Alps right up to the Écrins massif. Moreover, skiers can look forward to the ski areas of the Haute-Savoie, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, as well as the Maritime Alps.

Ski areas in the Italian Alps

In Sondrio for instance, the most northern region of Lombardia, skiers will find especially sporty ski areas. Bormio has repeatedly been the host for various Alpine skiing championships. Also Livigno is very popular with 115 km of piste to be found in the diverse ski area. Sun-seekers will feel absolutely at home in Southern Tyrol, as the region is located on the sunny side of the Alps. The interconnected ski region Dolomiti Superski, for instance, is perfect for ambitious skiers. In general Italy has a lot of ski areas to offer - in Trentino, Southern Tyrol, Piedmont, Aosta Valley, the aforementioned Lombardy or in Venezia.

Ski areas in the Swiss Alps

Grisons is the largest of the Swiss cantons and offers resorts, such as Davos, St. Moritz or Samnaun which form a diverse winter sports region. Here there are various ski arenas to challenge, e.g. Flims-Laax-Falera. The Valais region however has just as much to offer. Impressive ski areas, such as 4 Vallées, Saas-Fee and Les Portes du Soleil make this region a destination worth visiting for every winter sports fan. Other ski areas you should definitely visit are: the Bernese Oberland, St. Gallen and Central Switzerland.
